Detailed Description

macro-scale CFD tool for 3D simulation of foam expansion

Solver for 2 compressible, non-isothermal immiscible fluids using a VOF (volume of fluid) phase-fraction based interface capturing approach. The momentum and other fluid properties are of the mixture and a single momentum equation is solved. Turbulence modelling is generic, i.e. laminar, RAS or LES may be selected. The solver has been adapted for modeling of Polyurethane foams (PU). In that, it includes the Quadrature Method of Moments (QMOM) to solve a Population Balance Equation (PBE) determining the bubble size distribution inside PU foams. Moreover, the kinetics of the reactions including gelling, blowing and evaporation of the physical blowing agent are incorporated into the solver. Finally, the kinetics and PBE has been coupled to describe the time evolution of foaming process.
